Jim Libby, President (3rd year of second two-year term – term limits at end of 2017)
In 1970 Jim and his wife set a goal to live somewhere west of where the Rocky Mountains start. But first, Jim had to complete his working career at Caterpillar in Illinois. Hard times for the construction equipment industry lead to early retirement offers, and in 1987 an offer Jim couldn’t refuse allowed them to reach their goal. His wife selected Colorado and Jim selected Durango. Since moving to Durango Jim has participated in the creation of the La Plata County Trails Plan, the Animas Valley Land Use Plan, served on the Animas Water Company Board, and the La Plata County Board of Adjustment, and as a volunteer with SJMA. For the last ten years Jim has contributed by helping create publications for our members and the public. He is very grateful for the opportunity to serve as a board member. And Jim says, “SJMA offers something for everyone and is a door through which all of us pass to enjoy our public lands”. Jim is serving on the Board for the second time and resides in Durango, CO (La Plata County).
