Forest “Tree Cone” Cleanup

August 6, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Do you know what a tree cone is? When seedlings are planted to help our forest grow, seedlings are protected by a tree cone. In some climates, these tree cones decompose but in Colorado’s dry climate, they need to be physically removed once the tree begins to grow.

Join SJMA and the forest service for this family friendly event to help to pick up the leftover tree cones and remove this plastic from the forest. The work will be followed by a BBQ, hosted by the Forest Service.

When: August 6, 2022 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Where: Meet along forest service road 530 at 10 am and we will travel to Dead Horse point together.

Directions: At the bottom of Norwood Hill, turn on to Forest Service Road 530. After about 4 Miles look for a kiosk on your right and a turnoff to Road 515 on your left. There will be parking and shuttle opportunities for those with low clearance cars.

Details: At noon we will switch from work to a social barbecue hosted by the forest service.

Questions? If you have questions call the district office at: (970)-327-4361
