Training: Wilderness Solitude Monitoring, Durango

Protect the Weminuche Wilderness this summer!
Join SJMA & the San Juan National Forest as a Wilderness Solitude Monitoring volunteer to collect data on Wilderness use in the Weminuche. Data we collect will be used by the Forest Service to make management decisions for the Wilderness. Volunteers will monitor 4 hours at a time, across 60 dates, in 6 areas in the wilderness in the Columbine & Pagosa districts. All volunteers wanting to help MUST attend a training to learn how to collect & report visitor data. We’ll have three trainings total. One will be in Pagosa, one close to Durango, and one will be virtual. We strongly encourage everyone to attend an in person training if possible, because we’ll be able to practice monitoring in the field.
Three trainings are available:
May 19 – Pagosa Springs
May 25 – Junction Creek
May 31 – Virtual
