DESCRIPTION:Are you interested in connecting with the landscapes of Ouray? Do you desire more knowledge of the regional plants and animals that inhabit the San Juans? Or do you simply wish for a fun and engaging exploration that you can share with your family? Join SJMA in Ouray for the fourth exploration hike of the Nature in Four-Season series. These outings will broaden your awareness of the species that call the San Juans home. We will be engaged in moderate hiking\, species identification\, and habitat exploration. Each of the four season hikes will be focused on a different set of “residents” who stand out during the varied seasons of the year. \nFor our fall exploration\, we will investigate how\, as days grow shorter\, mountain species are in full gear to prepare for winter. DESCRIPTION:SJMA is partnering with Colorado 14ers Initiative (CFI) for multi-day trail work project. Work will be overseen by CFI. Details will finalized soon. \nWhen: Evening of Tuesday\, September 1 – morning of Thursday\, September 3 \n\nSeptember 1st: Camp at Yankee Boy Basin / Mt. Sneffels Trailhead\,\nSeptember 2nd: Work approx. 8.5 hours. Please be ready to work very early in the morning! Camp back at trailhead.\nSeptember 3rd: Pack up and head out..\n\n\n\nWhere: Yankee Boy / Mt. Sneffels Trailhead; Please note\, the road to the trailhead is suitable for most crossover/small SUVs until 0.2 miles from trailhead. Unless you have a serious 4×4\, you will need to park and carry your camping gear from that point. \nWhat To Bring:  \n\nCamping gear\nWear long pants\, long sleeves\, and boots or sturdy shoes\nBe prepared for all types of weather at high altitude. Each of the four season hikes will be focused on a different set of “residents” who stand out during the varied seasons of the year. \nDuring our summer exploration\, we will venture into the realm of the subalpine forest where mammals\, birds\, and insects are busy making the most of the long sunny days of summer. Join us in an exploratory hike to hear life histories and stories of resilience kept by these alpine residents. \nWhen: August 1\, 2026 from 9:00AM – 1:00PM \nWhere: Meet at Ouray Visitor’s Center at 1230 Main St\, Ouray ; then we will carpool to an area near Red Mountain Pass. \nCost: Free\, $10 donations very appreciated \nRegistration is required. DESCRIPTION:Curious about minimalist camping or learning to thrive outdoors with limited gear? This program\, in collaboration with Montrose Recreation District\, is designed for adults and families ready to deepen their wilderness knowledge and self-reliance. Participants learn how to travel comfortably with just a small pack\, tarp\, and the Ten Essentials.
