Be a part of National Public Lands Day (NLPD) 2023, the nation’s largest, volunteer event for our public lands! Join SJMA and the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument (CANM) to complete trail work and trailhead register/sign installation at the Painted Hand Pueblo.
This project is open to everyone and all ages! No training or tools required. We’ll work on multiple trail projects, with options for all skill sets and ability levels. Some of the projects include rock work to keep everyone on the trail, improving the trailhead, and installing new signage to help educate visitors. This project is in a fragile and culturally important place, so we’ll talk about how to respect this incredible place while completing trail work projects.
When: September 22, 2023 from 9am-12pm
Where: Painted Hand Pueblo Trailhead in the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. It takes about an hour and a half to drive to this location from Durango. You’ll take a gravel road for the last 1 mile to the trailhead.
