Courtney Lane

Education Specialist

Courtney (she/they) grew up in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains in upstate South Carolina. As a kid she spent most of her time outdoors playing, fishing, or exploring with her many siblings. She went to school at North Greenville University earning a degree in Outdoor Leadership. In college she spent her time recreating all around the southeast rock climbing, paddling, backpacking, building community and developing a deep connection with the outdoors. After college, she moved to Washington and has spent the last four years working as an outdoor environmental educator, naturalist and program support for a variety of organizations along the west coast.

Courtney relocated to Durango in early summer 2023 and is excited to bring her passion and experiences to serving the SJMA team and the youth of the La Plata and Montezuma counties. She’s passionate about creating an inclusive and accessible experience for all folks in the outdoors. When Courtney isn’t serving as an outdoor educator she can be found carrying a field guide to ID local flora and fauna, mountain biking, shooting film photography, or working on perfecting a loaf of sourdough.
