Patti Brady
Adopt-a-Road Director and Pagosa Patrol
After working as a Volunteer Ambassador of the San Juan Public Lands Center for 13 years, Patti Brady joined SJMA’s staff as a Visitor Services Assistant in 2012 and now lead the Adopt-a-Road program and patrols Pagosa District forest roads. Patti likes to joke that it only took her 13 years of volunteer service before she finally made the cut for part-time employee.
Patti has been a certified trailer towing instructor for the San Juan NF, BLM since 2001 and the state of Colorado in 2019. In 2019, she conducted a class to train the trailer towing instructors. In 2000, she started the “Adopt A Road” program and has coordinated it ever since.
Patti is originally from southern New Mexico and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She founded a senior program for the state of New Mexico called “Sacramento Mountains Senior Services, Inc.” to support seniors with jobs and services. As you can see, Patti has never been a stranger to hard work. Since 2001 has spent many days patrolling for the Pagosa Ranger District.
Patti is also very creative designing and painting a six-panel piece of art (8 ft. x 24 ft.) that was initially created for the SJNF Centennial Parade back in 2005, and is currently on display in the visitor area of the San Juan National Forest Visitor Center. Patti is also currently working on a biography and plans to paint pictures of a variety of incidents discussed in her up and coming book. When she is not working, you’ll find Patti often, either camping or 4-wheeling on public lands. Patti’s late husband, Pete, was also a huge supporter of Public Lands and retired from the Lincoln National Forest Service in New Mexico. Patti has two sons, Sterling, who works for the BLM in California, and Troy, who lives and works in the Durango, area.
