Rachael Taylor

Community Education Manager

Rachael was born and raised in Hawai’i where her love for the outdoors began in the micro ecosystems of tidal pools, lush rainforests, and powerful ocean. Rachael began her Environmental Studies degree at the University of Hawai’i, and then transferred to Fort Lewis College (FLC) where she would go on to graduate. Since college, Rachael has worked in the non-profit world in various leadership development, student teaching and mentoring, and management roles. In 2021 Rachael brought this experience along with her passion for connecting others with the outdoors to SJMA’s education team.

Rachael has been thrilled to grow with SJMA’s ever-expanding edu team in bringing local students outside to learn and explore in nature. She enjoys working with all different students, from excitable preschoolers to inquisitive college grads. In particular, Rachael loves to help others make connections: connections with each other and their communities, connections with the amazing natural environment that surrounds us, and connections between undistracted time in nature and our day-to-day lives. Getting to utilize the natural creation to facilitate lasting learning is an ever-increasing passion of Rachael’s, and she takes great joy in working to make it more accessible for others.

In her free time, Rachael can be found seeking some water related adventure or capturing the beautiful natural world with her paintbrush and canvas.
