Nick McKey

Volunteer Coordinator

Nick McKey was born and raised in Grandville, Michigan and coming out to Fort Lewis College in 2017 to pursue academics and athletics. He earned an Environmental Studies Degree in 2021, with his capstone project being a meta-analysis of National Park visitor data during the lead up and the height of COVID.

The last three and a half years, Nick has been working with the Southwest Conservation Corps, making his way through positions from the Crew Lead Development Program they offer, up to Field Supervisor. In that program he fell in love with the slower sides of outdoor recreation, such as hiking, backpacking, and fishing.

In his spare time, you’ll see him around town in cafes playing chess, on his bikes, running, or, in the winters, coaching with the Durango Nordic Ski Club.
