Why Support SJMA?

Because you love the San Juan Mountains!

SJMA is a donor-supported organization which means that your support directly funds our stewardship and conservation education programs such as our Forest Ambassadors, Wilderness Stewardship Crew, Public Land Ambassadors, school-based enrichment programs, and much more. Each year, these programs make an incredible difference in Southwest Colorado by:

  • engaging with tens of thousands of public land visitors annually, encouraging “Leave No Trace” principles throughout the region;
  • hauling out hundreds of pounds of trash from popular trails;
  • spending hundreds of hours doing light trail maintenance; and
  • offering a minimum of  $10,000 in scholarships annually to ensure that every kid has the opportunity to participate in our programs.

Your financial support has a direct impact in caring for the San Juans now and preserving them for future generations. With your support, SJMA is reaching more people than ever throughout Southwest Colorado, instilling in them understanding, passion, and ultimately, the respect and desire to protect our spectacular public lands.

Frequently Asked Questions

Membership levels are being replaced with Levels of Support. Is my current membership still valid?

All current memberships / donation status will transfer into our new system. You will still receive a reminder that your membership is due, but you will be directed to continue your support by the new Levels of Support form.

In the past, I signed up for automatic membership renewal. Is this still possible?

Yes. When filling out the Levels of Support form, simply select ‘donate annually’ which is equivalent to choosing “membership auto-renewal” in our previous system.

I currently am (or would like to become) a monthly donor. Is that possible?

Yes! The minimum monthly contribution is $5, annualized at $60/year which means monthly donors immediately become “Super Stewards,” at minimum.

How long do my benefits last?

Your benefits start the day you donate and expire one year later.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes, SJMA is a 501 (c) 3 organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Your thank you email will include your total donation and SJMA’s federal tax ID number.

How will I receive my benefits?

An email will be sent to you, outlining your supporter benefits and presenting you with a digital Supporter card.
