Thomas Fritz

Education Specialist

Thomas grew up in the White Mountains of Arizona where he developed an appreciation for time spent outdoors by participating in the wide range of activities a four-season environment provides. After high school he spent time in Tucson, Arizona for several years where he began rock climbing and exploring the mountains of the Sonoran Desert. During this time, he understood just how important a connection to the natural world around us was for his sense of fulfillment in life. Wanting to better share this connection with others, he found his way up to Durango and graduated from Fort Lewis College where he studied Adventure Education and Psychology. Thomas’ appreciation for the San Juan Mountains kept him around after school, joining the SJMA team as an outdoor educator in hopes of inspiring that appreciation and connection to the place he now calls home. When he isn’t working, Thomas can be found on the surrounding mountain peaks, backpacking through the Weminuche, or running on local trails.
