Doug Wiersma
Visitor Information Specialist / San Juan National Forest, Pagosa Springs
Doug joined SJMA in 2023 as a Visitor Information Specialist in the Pagosa Ranger District office after a 32-year career as a Colorado state trooper. Along with his wife and later their three children, he has called Pagosa Springs home since 1998. Though passionate about public safety and law enforcement throughout his career, his greater love is and always has been for the exploration and enjoyment of public lands and wilderness areas across our country, and especially in the western and southwestern U.S. An avid hiker and backpacker, Doug feels privileged to live in southwest Colorado and to now serve with SJMA in partnership with the Pagosa Ranger District, working to promote and preserve our own San Juan National Forest.
