Training: Chicago Basin Basecamp Ambassador

Chicago Basin backpackers needed this summer!! Passionate about protecting Chicago Basin? Love meeting new people? Looking for an excuse to spend a few extra weekends in the Weminuche?

Join SJMA at the Chicago Basin Basecamp this summer to share LNT (Leave No Trace) and responsible recreation information with visitors. Volunteers will receive a complimentary train ticket from Durango and can stay at our basecamp near the train stop or backpack into Chicago Basin. As a volunteer, you’ll take the train to Needleton on Friday morning and return Monday afternoon. All weekend, you’ll chat with hikers and backpackers about how to recreate responsibly and explore the region. Volunteers have the chance to make a big impact on the way visitors recreate in Chicago Basin and protect it for future generations. This training is required for all new Chicago Basin volunteers.
