Colorado Public Lands Day – Crosscut Training

May 14, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - May 16, 2021 @ 5:00 pm

SJMA and Retired Wilderness Ranger Anne Dal Vera will be hosting a crosscut saw training as a celebration of Colorado Public Lands Day! In light of the ever present need to keep trails clear and accessible across our mountains, we will be training sawyers who can assist with this effort.

Participants will need a current CPR/First Aid certification in order to participate.

Class Schedule

  • Prior to May 14th: Online course: 8 hours with a test
  • Friday, May 14th: 5:00-7:30pm via Zoom to teach saw care and recent new information
  • Saturday, May 15th: 9:00am – 5:00pm field session. Students use the saws to cut out trees on the ground (bucking) and move the cut sections.  The trees may be in piles or single trees.  Students are evaluated, and recommendations are made to FS line officers for certification.
  • Sunday, May 16th: 9:00am – 5:00pm certification process
