Christmas Tree Harvest Day 2023

Join SJMA for our biggest volunteer day of the year, our Christmas Tree Harvest Day! Each year, we sell locally harvested, white firs on our Christmas Trees for Conservation Lot. We coordinate with the San Juan National Forest to designate the area in most need of thinning white fir trees. This thinning improves forest health by reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire. While some fire is very helpful and necessary for the forest, young white fir can act as “ladder fuel” which means they allow fire to climb from the underbrush to the crowns of the tallest trees. Crown fires can spread more quickly and are harder to control.
What: Help carry, collect, net and transport white firs from the forest to our Christmas Trees for Conservation Lot
